Not sure what to wear for Christmas Portraits? Let me help you with some visual guides! Selecting your outfits can make or break your family portraits! You really want to select outfits that flatter everyone, and can showcase who you really are. Is your family causal and comfortable or is your family upscale and glamorous? You can go in so many different directions. The possibilities are virtually endless and you have the internet to shop at your disposal!

Here is a list of my favorite places to shop:

H&M : Really great selection of clothing for kids and adults. A great way to stay trendy and relevant, and not submit to the “cuteness” of boy clothes you will find in other chain stores. Also, convenient, and you can find GREAT deals here!
Janie & Jack : On the more expensive side, but the quality alone is worth it! They have a very distinct style that will not disappoint!
Zara : High fashion kids clothes (and adults too!) If you want to stand out, this is it!
Boden : Really beautiful clothing options for the whole family! High quality pieces, velvet, tulle, sequins, blazers, shoes, etc.
ModCloth: An amazing resource for women both regular and plus sized, with an amazing assortment of different and unique styles!
Shein : Stay in style with the amazing options at Shein, for men, women and children!
Neiman Marcus : Always a solid choice for a classic look for every member of your family.
Ted Baker : High end designs, beautifully crafted, and gorgeous additions to your closet that will last the test of time!
ASOS : For men and women, the clothing you will find here are highly stylish and perfect for that wow factor!

Although these are just my suggestions for what to wear for Christmas Portraits…

You should take some time to really think about colors, patterns, styles and textures to create your own look for your family. You will really have a good time searching the internet for just the right pieces, and then it’s time to shop! Or, you can look in your closet and try to find different things you have purchased throughout the years, to make something work! It’s a really fun challenge and you will feel so much more proud that you’ve styled your family on your own! I’d say that will earn some serious bragging rights!

Take a look at the board below and see how I styled them. You will have a much better idea on what to wear for Christmas Portraits!

Its fall! The leaves are changing colors and your children are getting bigger. You want to document this season to remember how cute they look in those brown corduroy pants that stinking adorable pumpkin sweater! Because next year, they probably won’t allow you to dress them, so savor this moment. So the question is, do you book a mini session or a full session?

You need to first take a look at your family, and see what would work best for them. If your children like props, and love a good theme, but get bored easily – then perhaps a mini session is your best bet! Mini sessions are usually themed, and can last anywhere from 10-15 minutes.

A full session would allow your family up to 1 full hour to walk around a location of your choice. Your family will be able to play, laugh, have fun and make a really great memory out of this. Your photographer (me!) would walk with you, capture fun candids of your family enjoying each other, and pose you when we get to the really amazing spots. Some people think that the 1 hour is too long for a child, but, when you really think about it, we aren’t photographing for that entire hour, your children are running, laughing and having a great time!

Both sessions will allow you to obtain beautiful images of your family, that’s no doubt! It really depends on you and your family and what you are looking for. With all of that said, let’s jump into some photo examples of a fall mini session and a full session below, and don’t forget to check out our list of mini sessions for the 2020-2021 year here, and to book your full session click here!

Fall family sessions are my favorite.

The weather starts to change, somehow we get all of this energy to rake the lawn, pops of color and comfy flannels call our names and FORCE us to put them on! SOCKS! Who doesn’t love socks, and hoodies, and those super comfy, fuzzy boots… yes you know the ones, the ones that you can stick your toes inside and wear as slippers. Watching movies with ALL of the blankets, and waking up in the morning and making a big cup of hot coffee!

Yes, autumn is here, and it’s time for Fall family sessions. Because, why not? Your children are older, they’re so cute and of course you want to dress them up in the most adorable fall attire you can find. These images make beautiful wall pieces, but most importantly… this is a tradition!

These special sessions are something to look forward to! You’ve made it through the summer, your kids are in a new grade at school! They’re entering a new chapter of their lives and you want to document this. It’s special, and you’re creating and documenting these memories that they will love looking back on as adults. Then they can carry on the same tradition with their own children. Be proud of that, you did that!

Bokeh Love has been photographing Fall family sessions for over 10 years. Whether it’s a mini session or a full session dedicated to capturing those natural smiles and giggles, you’ll be happy you made this investment!
