This session was near and dear to my heart. This little boy’s Mommy, was one of my childhood best friends! What’s even cooler than that, is that my daughters are best friends with her daughters, and I was able to photograph her son’s first birthday Elmo Cake Smash! When she told me that he loved Elmo, I just knew I had to set up the whole Sesame Street Crew! My husband even made the Sesame Street sign with the lamp! And of course, this delicious cake that he is eating is from Lily Gray Sweets, who always comes through with an amazing cake!
He had his eyes on my red ottoman from the moment he entered my studio! He was drumming the entire time! Maybe he has some music in his future! To keep him occupied while trying to get some really nice portraits, I showed him one of my childhood toys, my wooden Radio Flyer Row Cart! He even got to ride on the Morgan Ace Flyer, but that’s just a really cool prop I picked up in my many travels of prop hoarding! (haha, seriously, I have way too many props!)
So we did have some Sesame Street playing on a phone, but shh don’t tell anyone! It’ll be our little secret! Just pretend he is actually smiling at me! He did however, love hanging out with his family. They had matching shirts, done by the lovely Tia of Tia Crafty Creations! They all had matching shirts on and looked fabulous rocking Elmo! I have to say, Elmo is pretty cool!

Where the Wild Things Are
Daniel Tiger
Vintage Mickey Mouse
When one of my favorite clients told me she wanted a ‘Where the wild things are’ cake smash, I didn’t hold back! I went to town researching the book, the backdrops available, and seeing what other people did, so I could do something more unique, but still familiar. I couldn’t find anything I liked so I turned to the book. I looked at how it read and how the illustrations were created in this beautiful scene. Maurice Sendak, the Author and illustrator has created this amazing world for Max. I say world, because it is completely immersive. I wanted my client to feel the wild things, all around him and for this cake smash to be something special for him to look back on. So, hats off to you Maurice! You are a true inspiration! I can only hope I did his book justice. If you’re getting ready to plan your little ones Galloway Cake Smash, then you should definitely keep reading!
My client shares the same name as the main character in the book. Thats right! His name is also Max! So it was inevitable that he have a ‘Where the wild things are’ cake smash! He even had his very own costume! I honestly could not hold back the smiles during this whole session. Everything was perfect and he so cheerful the entire time!
The cake was custom made by LilyGray Sweets with custom cut out characters of them doing their wild rumpus! She is also from Galloway and does amazing Galloway Cake Smash Cakes! Anyway, If you grew up reading this book then you know how good it is! If you haven’t picked it up, it’s time to go grab a copy! Your children will thank you! LilyGray Sweets was able to take my inspiration from the book and create custom fondant cutout’s as decoration for the outside of the cake. It was perfection!
So, why is this cake smash so special to me? I’ve done a ‘Where the Wild Things Are’ cake smash years ago, and I was in love with it. With this session I was able to revisit it and try something new! This time around, I painted the entire backdrop! Sometimes, I am able to just find a backdrop I like, I purchase it, and throw it up. This time, I just couldn’t find exactly what I wanted, so I painted an entire mural! The good thing is, if you want this same set up for your son or daughter, I can make it happen, because I have photographed the mural and I am able to order it as a printed backdrop for future use.
Oh and do you see those dancing Wild Things? It’s actually a floor puzzle!
After every cake smash, I have started incorporating something new! A bath tub to clean off all the cake! Of course we let them splash and Mom or Dad can clean them up afterwards and get them dressed in their clean clothes to head home. It’s so easy and there is no mess in your car! I can only imagine that would be a sticky ride home!
If you loved what you saw here, please share this with all of your friends on facebook, pin it on pinterest and keep me in mind for your next cake smash or first birthday session!

Don’t laugh at me, but… until this session I had no idea that Daniel Tiger was the new Mr. Rogers! I had never watched the show before this, and of course as field research I sat myself down on the couch to cuddle up with my favorite blanket to watch Daniel Tigers Neighborhood. I felt my childhood coming back through this little cartoon tiger. It was Mr. Rogers all over again! (And it was AWESOMEEE) I can totally see how this was his favorite character and why Mom and Dad wanted to have a Daniel Tigers Neighborhood themed cake smash! What a good memory this will be for him when he is all grown up! I know Mr. Rogers has a special place in my heart! This was an extremely fun Cake Smash Photography session near Atlantic County NJ!
The balloons were from Party Starters, the most amazing family owned party store in Galloway (check them out, they’re super friendly), and I love supporting small businesses! It helps with so much, and allows families to be close to each other while providing quality service to local customers. Also instead of your hard earned money going to a large corporation, it goes to helping a family live their dream of owning a business. Yey for supporting local!

I love babies, I especially love 1 year old babies. They’re so full of life, and happy, and they’ve developed their own little personality! Some are quiet and shy, and others are fast moving and all giggles! I never know what is going to walk through my door (literally!). Some walk, some just aren’t there yet. If you are looking for First Birthday Portraits in Galloway NJ, then we are the company for you! One of my favorite sessions to date is little Miss Nora. She is so pretty, and inquisitive. She inspected the entire set, and wasn’t quite sure of my camera, even though I’ve photographed her quiet a few times. I love watching my clients grow up. I can’t wait to see how she blossoms next year!
Sometimes a cake smash just isn’t what a client wants, and that’s totally okay! Birthday portraits are just as amazing! I still design the set, and we just have a less messy set up. This set up is one of my favorites as well. The white netting, the rustic letters, the beautiful flowers and gorgeous backdrop! It is just so dainty, perfect for her First Birthday Portraits in Galloway NJ!

If you are thinking about booking a Cake Smash Photo Session, just do it! They can be super elaborate or they can be very simple. I am so happy with this cake smash. Mostly because it’s my son! He lovessss Mickey Mouse, so of course I had to have a Vintage Mickey Mouse Cake Smash Photo Session. I didn’t want the bright colors, I wanted vintage film, and I wanted it to look very classic. I am pretty happy with out it turned out, and he LOVED his cake! (Which was from Shoprite in Galloway by the way!)
But before the cake, I always try for portraits. Sometimes they don’t go as planned and we have to bribe baby with something… In this cake, his favorite food – Cheerios! It made him perfectly happy, which we were able to keep him busy until we were ready to surprise him with his cake! Boy was he happy! He loved it and ended up eating HALF of this cake. He was so sleepy after and definitely slept like a bear!
I’d say he had a really good birthday and I will always remember his Vintage Mickey Mouse Cake Smash!
