BLOG

When it comes to babies, we want to remember how their toes looked when they were one week old. We want to see how their skin looked and how amazingly adorable their eyes were when you held them tight. These moments are so important and I highly recommend newborn photography. Having had two little girls, I missed out on this. Being a photographer we get wrapped up in taking photos of other families and sometimes forget to stop and smell the flowers that are right there in front of us. If I could go back in time, I would have done these photos for each of my children.

Below you will see a different example of what kind of photos you can get for your babies. Outside in natural light is of course my absolute favorite. Baskets are great props and add some other elements to the photos without taking away from your little bundle of joy. In studio is great too, if it’s snowing, cold, or the weather just doesn’t permit for us to be outside. We have to think about the safety of the children, so on cold days, inside there is always a space heater and blankets to warm the babies. A puck style beanbag is used for underneath the blankets and for the baby to lie on. These beanbags are easily moved to create a comfortable bed for the baby to keep them comfy.

I strongly suggest keeping outfit changes to a maximum of two. The less the baby is wearing, the better so they stay comfortable and aren’t disturbed much, especially if they are sleeping. Swaddling is also strongly recommended, as it keeps babies snug, happy and asleep.

Please bring diapers, wipes, burp clothes as well and be prepared for accidents. They happen and it’s always good to be prepared!

All of our blankets go through the wash with Dreft after every session and are stored in a air tight tote for the next session.

Sessions are 1 hour long to give time for breast-feeding, bottle-feeding, diaper changing, accidents etc.

To book your session, or ask questions please contact Lauren from the contact link above!

NEWBORN + BABY PORTRAITS | BOKEH LOVE PHOTOGRAPHY | GALLOWAY, NEW JERSEY | SOUTHERN NEW JERSEY PROFESSIONAL PHOTOGRAPHER

Morgan and Brian are gorgeous. They are also the most amazingly kind people I’ve ever met. They actually had a destination wedding and wanted to throw a big party back in New Jersey for their friends and family that couldn’t make the actual wedding. A good friend of mine was their photographer, and they wouldn’t be able to make this NJ party, so they gave them my name. I am so glad I have such amazing friends in this industry and I was so happy when Morgan and Brian said they wanted me to come to their wedding and capture this event for them. I had never been to Willow Creek Winery, and I can’t believe how beautiful it is! It’s a tiny little gem in West Cape May! Now being a Galloway girl, this is foreign territory for me, BUT I love Cape May and was so head over heals about going!

From the purple flowers to the sunset, to her AMAZING pink Maggie Sorrento wedding dress – it was pure perfection! But don’t take it from me, look for yourself!

xoxo,
Lauren

One of the hardest things to handle when a tragedy happens is dealing with lost memories. I wasn’t always a photographer. I was a child, who had “school class photos”, “sports photos”, and “girl scout photos”. I was a new Mom, who didn’t have time to put albums together, but took a zillion iPhone Selfies, iPhone pics (it was easy for me, and convenient). One of my best friends in this entire world collected all of my photos and created a beautiful scrapbook for me. Those things are memories and they mean more than you could ever imagine. When I heard our house was on fire, you forget those things. All you care about, all you can see or think about is family. Is everyone all right? Yes? AMAZING! What about our pets. We did lose a bunny, and to this day it haunts me. My girls LOVED Princess Buttercup. Whenever they see a bunny outside they say it may be Princess Buttercups cousin. They look up in the sky, and find the brightest star and say, “Look Mom! Princess Buttercup is up there!” It breaks your heart. It does. You don’t know how strong you are, until you need to me. Boy oh boy – the past few years I have been truly tested. I have come out strong each time, but it’s getting hard to stay strong. I need a nice cup of good luck!

One thing I felt strongly about with this fire was that I couldn’t look at what happened. It was this devastating experience that I wanted handled for me. I just couldn’t bear to do this myself. I hired a professional and his team to help us- to do what I couldn’t do. Emotionally I just couldn’t. It’s so difficult to look at what is left, and to try to make sense of it. Why us? Why did this happen right after Christmas? What did our kids do to deserve all of their Christmas toys to be taken away? I have been such a good-hearted person; this just does not make ANY sense. For my husband – it has happened as a kid. What did he do, to deserve this again? These thoughts run through our heads and its just so difficult to fathom.

We hired Thomas Lacovara & Associates to be our public adjuster. It was the BEST decision we could have EVER MADE. Tom and his team are so compassionate. They CARE. It is not everyday that you find someone who wants to help you, because you deserve it. They fight for what is right. Thanks to them, we are going to be able to rebuild our home. It’s been a long process, and it’s really only beginning; But they were there for us when we weren’t strong. We didn’t know what needed to be done, and they did it for us, and we couldn’t be more thankful to them!

One of the things that upset me the most, was our memories were gone. I kept thinking about the pictures; All of the pictures that were printed. The photos of my family before digital cameras were around, or at least before we owned one. My school photos, Girl Scout photos, sports photos… all of my iPhone photos that my best friend created the album with! Her hard work, those scrapbook pages had so many memories on them. I loved them so much and could remember how happy she was that she did this for me. How amazing the pages were put together and just how beautiful this album really was. I didn’t have time to do it, but she did, and it was my most favorite gift, ever.

John, Thomas Lacovara’s partner, found ALL of our photos in the house. He sent them away and we finally received them last week. They don’t smell. They look amazing. They were restored from a company, who I believe is called The Shoe Box. There is no email address, web address, but the presentation and care that these photos arrived in, is out of this world. The boxes are beautiful. Linen, each photo organized in packets, others wrapped in tissue paper.

This made my day, my month, and my entire year. I am so happy, so thankful, and so overcome with joy that these memories were not lost.

Here are some photos of what we received. Please excuse my iPhone-ography! What can I say, sometimes convenience rules.

Thank you for reading, and just remember, memories are so much better when preserved! There are professionals that can help you do that, even photographers need to hire the pros sometimes!

xoxo,
Lauren

Restoring our Memories | Personal | Bokeh Love Photography | Galloway Professional Photographer

One of the first things I get asked after a session is booked, is “What should we wear!” Usually I point them in the direction of pinterest and tell them to start searching for style boards within that season. Sometimes it works out really well, and other times it leaves my clients dazed and confused. I’ve actually had clients show up with quite a few outfits in their car and ask me what they think. Instead of wasting time looking through clothing during a session, I try my very best to let them know what I think would work best for what they’re trying to achieve in their images. The decision to create my own style boards was out of pure frustration because I couldn’t find what I wanted to for my clients to look at. I wanted to put my own sense of style into it, and I wanted it to be branded with my logo, and some of my wording on it to let them know what I was thinking while I put the board together.

Tonight, I decided to look at Baby Gap, Gap Kids, Gap, and Banana Republic. All of these stores are linked together so when you look at them on the Internet, you can flip through each store. They’re also connected to Old Navy, Pepperlime, and Athleta. It’s such a user friendly website and I urge you to go check it out. What I liked about these stores is that I could make boards for babies, little kids, maternity AND engagement without having to do TOO much searching. The cloths are stylish and up to date, fun and funky, and simply adorable. Basically, I’m in love! Also, these things won’t break the bank. They’re perfectly affordable and will make your portraits look like you’ve had a professional stylist!

So without any more delay, check them out! Tell me what you think and if you like a store, and you want me to make some boards with my suggestions, please let me know! I will be more than happy to do so!

Enjoy!

Lauren

I love engagement session. Especially when they include a gorgeous couple and my green couch. This engagement session started on a beautiful lake in a campground and ended on a river. I always tell my clients that the background in your images doesn’t matter, because it’s about you two. You are both the stars and that is what I will focus on. In this case, it’s like everyones dream. To be outside, with the one you love. There is nothing around but nature and what a beautiful setting it is! Serenity at it’s finest!

Amy and Sean, thank you so much for spending time with me and being so patient as I made these beautiful images for you. I hope you cherish them and smile everytime you look at them!
