BLOG

Silhouettes are something that I have come to be basically obsessed with. At the end of each sunset session, I try my best to grab a sunset photo for my clients. They are my absolute favorite. There is something about taking that moment to just stand still with the ones you love and take in what is happening. It’s calm, it’s relaxing, and I even show you on the back of my camera what we just did! It’s more than just art, it’s an experience, and it’s a favorite of mine, and everyone who has gotten one done!

I am going to make this my own personal goal, that at the weddings I go to I make sure to get these shots. Every photographer challengages themselve in one way or another, and I love to challenge myself with new and exciting ways to make seriously epic photos! So check these out, and if you’re a current bride of mine, you will definitly be getting these shots!

It’s not everyday you get to take pictures in a place that you grew up! I love Patiot Park, however it wasn’t always called that. When I was a kid, we called it the “The Municipal Complex” or, as us kids referred to it as – “The Pit”. Thats right. It was a giant hole. We were told it would be an ice skating rink one day. That idea obviouslly fell through, but today its beautiful. There is a gorgeous lake that is stocked with fish for families to come together and do some relaxing, kick back and teach your kids how to fish. It’s a beautiful place with benches to honor your loved ones who have passed. They even have a K9 memorial, which always takes my breath away. Not only that, but the playground is right there, and back in my day (dusts the shoulder off) it was a WOOD playground. Now it’s really awesome, has super bright colors, it’s just a greay place for family!

So on this particular day, I got to photo a beautiful family, (with a super smart Mom!) Yep, she was the winner in my “Guess what is it contest!”. I shot a ring on something that noone could guess! I had guesses like an ice cube, a water filled zip lock bag. Nope – all wrong. She was the ONLY one who guessed a gazing ball! So, she got a free session!

So here it is! She has SUCH a perfect family! Enjoy!

There is something about being pregnant, that sets you aside from reality. You are in your own world. You feel this overwhelming joy for love. To fall in love with someone you have never met, is the best feeling in the world. I had the honor of capturing the beginning of their legacy, the start of their journey, the little life that is growing inside that is going to bring more joy than they could have ever imagined. It was peaceful and quiet. It was romantic and beautiful. It was real. It was a beautiful day filled with purple flowers, horse farms, wide open roads and fun. They were themselves and totally wrapped up in the moment. This is exactly how a maternity session should be.

Brandon and Alaina are not just regular clients, but my family. Brandon, my nephew is so excited and I am so overjoyed that he chose Alaina to create a beautiful baby boy with. Baby Brandon will be here very soon and I can’t wait to welcome him to this new world! They’re going to be amazing parents!

Take a look at this amazing journey we went on yesterday, and if you’re pregnant and looking for maternity portraits, please contact me and let’s set your session up!!!

When it comes to babies, we want to remember how their toes looked when they were one week old. We want to see how their skin looked and how amazingly adorable their eyes were when you held them tight. These moments are so important and I highly recommend newborn photography. Having had two little girls, I missed out on this. Being a photographer we get wrapped up in taking photos of other families and sometimes forget to stop and smell the flowers that are right there in front of us. If I could go back in time, I would have done these photos for each of my children.

Below you will see a different example of what kind of photos you can get for your babies. Outside in natural light is of course my absolute favorite. Baskets are great props and add some other elements to the photos without taking away from your little bundle of joy. In studio is great too, if it’s snowing, cold, or the weather just doesn’t permit for us to be outside. We have to think about the safety of the children, so on cold days, inside there is always a space heater and blankets to warm the babies. A puck style beanbag is used for underneath the blankets and for the baby to lie on. These beanbags are easily moved to create a comfortable bed for the baby to keep them comfy.

I strongly suggest keeping outfit changes to a maximum of two. The less the baby is wearing, the better so they stay comfortable and aren’t disturbed much, especially if they are sleeping. Swaddling is also strongly recommended, as it keeps babies snug, happy and asleep.

Please bring diapers, wipes, burp clothes as well and be prepared for accidents. They happen and it’s always good to be prepared!

All of our blankets go through the wash with Dreft after every session and are stored in a air tight tote for the next session.

Sessions are 1 hour long to give time for breast-feeding, bottle-feeding, diaper changing, accidents etc.

To book your session, or ask questions please contact Lauren from the contact link above!

When a Bride tells me she would like her engagement session to be at two different locations, I get so excited! Engagement sessions are so much fun when they have two totally different looks. The beach is always hard though, especially when it is hours before sunset. There is nowhere to hide from the sun, it’s bright, and it’s really a huge challange. Luckily for us, we went to the Brigantine Jetty, where there are some bulk heads to hide behind. (Believe it or not, when I was a child, there was water all the way up to these bulk heads, but since then, the water has moved out, and the Jetty is now accessable on one side all the way out!) It’s definitly different from when I was a kid, but it made it a great place to take pictures when the sun is super bright! The next location was none other than the Historic Smithville Village! I mean, you can’t go wrong here! When Krista showed up with this adorable green floral skirt, it was perfection! These two are such cuties! The one thing they said was, please – no corney photos! I think they were executed pretty darn well if you ask me – and I see no “corney” photos here, just 120% cuteness!

Krista & Alek – I hope you love these photos! I sure do!!!

xoxo,
Lauren
